Graniteville Barn Restoration Project - August 23-30, 2003

One of the first landmarks that visitors of Graniteville notice is the barn that has the Graniteville sign. This barn is one of the original Graniteville buildings that has survived several fires and many snow storms.  However, it had become apparent that the barn was leaning a dangerous 12 inches to the left, the back sill had been removed years earlier so the sides were rolling away, and the corner posts were about to fall. If something wasn't done soon - the barn was going to become a giant woodpile!

In an effort to preserve this historic building, a team of very hard working people spent a week of hard labor to make sure the barn will stand at least another hundred years.  The barn is on the property currently owned by the Bishop family (originally owned by the Cline family). The restoration team consisted of Bernie, Brian and Kevin Bishop, and Glenna Walters.  Brian, Kevin and Glenna all made the trip from the East Coast.  A special thanks to Bob Warfield and Paul Stone for their tips and tools. With much appreciation, the town thanks all those who helped Graniteville preserve one of its most beloved landmarks.
